I googled a bit more, and here's what Wikipedia says about damask and Damascus. Apparantely damask the fabric derived it's name from Damascus.
Arabs call the city Dimashq or al-Shām or (which is more important in my case ^_^ ) Madīnatul Yāsmīn (which literally means 'City of Jasmine')
I guess I'm taken with this pattern cuz it has deep connections with me. Funny though.
Anyways this pattern is a great inspiration for me.
